I havent used any of the Instant messaging services available but they certainly sound like a great networking tool to use in the library to communicate with our users, fellow staff members, community groups , in short our entire clientle. Some of my colleagues have used Skype, MSN and they said that it was quite easy to use.
One thing that does bother with thse new technologies is whether it will have a detrimental effect on actual library staff numbers. For example you could just have one reference librarian servicing many clients rather than many reference librarians working at various branches. This is probably the way of the future however, we must embrace change. Any technology that helps communication between people is very welcome.

Thing 23 Summing Up
I can use the whole experience of learning about the new technologies in 23 things program to help me with my library job. It has forced me to "get with it" in the sense of learning about things that I had no interest in or was resistant to. Basically I think that being creative and lateral thinking is the way to go with these new information tools in order to improve our knowledge and expertise in providing a better , relevant library service to users. The library can use many of the technologies to communicate with its users to a greater and deeper level as many libraries around the world are doing already. One great thing about this is the collaborative aspect of between other libraries in coming up with new ideas and practices which improve service.
The 23 Things program could be improved further if people were encouraged more to help each other out. I didn't feel this really happeneed that much with my colleagues. Also staff needed to feel that this was a very important part of their training and not feel guilty about working on it in work time. The trainers were very helpful at all times.
I made the mistake of usin Wordpress rather than Blogger which frustrated me very much. I would encourage evryone to use Blogger for the purpose of the training.
I think I will keep blogging to some extent as I did enjoy a l posting some ridiculous things. My blog was actually an Anti Blog. People seemed hell bent on revealing themselves, I was hell bent on doing the opposite- alot of the time anyway.
Personal privacy and security issues worry me a lot but maybe I am Robinson Crusoe.

Thing 18 Library 2.0
It has been an interesting journey doing the 23 things, albeit not always an easy one, however as with life there have been highs and lows. At first I felt like a luddite resisting a lot of the technology but still realizing that it may be very useful for todays library clientele. We need to be constantly innovative in order to remain relevant and provide the best service possible to our users. The idea of user user participation and feedback is a very good one. The one thing I have learned by this journey is we need to be continually creative and flexible and embrace change not fight against it because as Bob said "the times they are a changing."
I listened to the Talis podcast and found a lot of the discussion quite interesting.
As one of them said the new technology has caused a great seachange in libraries we must embrace it or drown.

Thing19- things I forgot to mention
Hi guys, I had a look at some wikis such as wikipedia, untopedia etc and uploaded a photo of my pet chimp. I tried to put it on the VU Wikilibrary but the 23 things gang were not available today to assist me. I'll do it later with their help.
The finishing line is getting closer, or is it just a mirage and I am suffering from heat stroke.

Thing 15 google booksearch/scholar
In my capacity as an Information Officer I have used Google Scholar to find reference articles for students. This is another great google information tool.
Google Book search is also another great tool for students, researchers and teachers alike. They are both quite easy to navigate around. Library staff are utilising these tools all the time. Microsoft be afraid... be very afraid, google is coming to get ya.

Thing 17 Delicious was tasty not delicious
Hi gang, I managed to sign up with Delicious and search for a few subjects that interested me such as director Julie Taymor, Vincent Van Gogh and singer songwriter Bruce Cockburn. I bookmarked them. This is certainly another great thing for us all, to be able to access our information from any computer is a really good feature.

Thing 14 Google Docs
Hi guys, I registered with Google Docs and uploaded a short story I wrote entitled "Braybrook Boys". I sent it to a few other bloggers. I think the people at Google have hit the goldmine with regard to a lot of their new features.Obviously they are in trying to compete with Microsoft. They are doing a fantastic job. Gooigle Docs is a brillant idea. Over and out
Thing 13 Google maps
Google maps is an extraordinary accomplishment albeit Big Brotherish and intrusive all the same. It is amazing how technology has captured our physical world for anyone to see. It does bother me the extent of all this however. Did a Google rep ask me for my permission to film my abode- of course not. Anyway how about google maps setting up live cameras outside every nightclub in melbourne and at every train station to catch and convict any people committing violent acts on others...and pigs might fly.

Thing 12 Myspace and Facebook
I have had a look at a few videos on myspace and looked a colleagues facebook page.
I am sure it is a great networking tool and libraries can and do use it as a communication tool for patrons especially the younger variety. Again, call me old fashioned but privacy is an important thing for me not CELEBRITY so that the idea of baring any my soul to strangers doesn't really appeal. However I am swimming against the tide of public popularity. The government has enough information on us without myself supplying anymore. What about the issue of cyber stalking, that could be a major problem with all this ready self disclosure.
Amen

Hi Gang, set up a Google Reader. I am finding the technology a bit overwhelming as I feel I would need to be unemployed in order to try and keep up with everything that is going on in the world. Over.
